Hey peeps!! Wow, I am amazed at the positive response I have had on Facebook to these latest paintings. Thanks for all the lovely comments and here's hoping they get accepted in to the NZ Art Show this year.
I felt like doing a piece that had a bit of colour in it, so I took Roy Lichtenstein's Little Big Painting (1965) concept of enlarging the brush stroke and put my "style" on it to produce this. The use of red and gold paint gives my lounge the pop that it needs :)
There's me, looking nervous as hell! Yes, those are two red dots under my painting - I still can't believe it...
But what's more rewarding than having my paintings sold, is seeing the happiness that my support network have for me. I can't thank them enough for all their support and of course to my amazing partner Hamish for just being his amazing self. So stoked to have been involved in this exhibition thanks to Meghan Geliza and Michael Kennedy for organising the whole exhibition. I'm not gonna lie... I am effing excited and nervous in equal amounts about this show! Really looking forward to it and I feel really privileged to be exhibiting with such awesome artists.
Opening Tea Party: 3pm, Saturday, 19 November, 2011 Exhibit runs from 19 November - 2 December Depot Artspace Main Gallery If you're in the Albany Mall area, you should go check out my paintings in the Jacaranda Cafe which is just around the corner from Subway and Cranks Bar on Corinthian Drive. Thanks to Danny at Jacaranda Cafe for allowing me to show them here and for hanging them :)
This photo is clearer than the one I recently posted on my Facebook page. Finally finished adding the new editions of the Baker family and just in time for my Nana Catherine's 65th birthday :)
Today I stumbled across the paintings of this female artist from Christchurch via www.onceit.co.nz. ONCE'IT is kind of like a 1-day website but for designer items such as art prints/originals, clothes, shoes and jewellery. If you love designer stuff at cheap(er) prices then you have to check this website out. It's membership by invites only so if you're keen to sign up with them just let me know and I'll send you an invite :D
Anyway... enough of the plug for ONCE'IT. Melissa Sharplin - definitely got me wanting to know more about her artwork and left me wondering why on earth I had not heard of her sooner as her paintings are amazing!!! These pieces are from one of her shows called "Swit Swirl" from 2010. Go check more of her paintings out at her website www.melissasharplin.com Back in April a friend asked if I could paint a picture of his son... I had never painted a portrait of anyone before but brave me said "sure!" :/ One hundred odd squares and 20something hours later this is the finished product.
Thanks to Drad for giving me the opportunity to create this painting as a gift to your wife - hope she likes it! |
